Featured Venue: Joe Skiles Park
Denton, Texas - Public
We are excited to start a series that features different pickleball venues! These features will likely start out as local to the North Texas area but we hope to feature venues GLOBALLY one day! For now, we’d like to tell you about the pickleball place that’s closest to our home and hearts: Joe Skiles Park in Denton, Texas.
As you can tell by the name, this place is more than just a pickleball court. It’s a sprawling, multipurpose 5.5 acres located in the Denton neighborhood of Southridge. It was completely updated in the past couple of years to add a tree-lined walking path, new tennis/pickleball court fencing, a kiddie playground, a covered pavilion with a grill and picnic tables, human and doggy water fountains and a canopy over the playground. The city also completely redid the sod because there were so many stickers that the fields were almost unusable for pets and small kiddos.
We come here weekly with our two young boys to bike around the path, kick the soccer ball, shoot some hoops and, of course, play some pickleball! It’s great for kids because they can bounce around from one area to another while grown ups can play along or sit in the shade while keeping an eye on them.
There is even a local park cat! Her name is Luna and she is usually taking a nap in the shade somewhere!
